Meet the Maker:

Hi! I’m Nan Dix founder of Artistic Origin. I specialize in the creation of artful pearl and gemstone jewelry using hand knotting and wire work techniques.

My private studio is located in Orange, Virginia near the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Two amazing studio assistants, Lauren and Dawn, help keep up with the growing workload. We supply specialty stores and participate in pop-up events regularly.

Background:

As a child I loved to paint, visit art museums, and participate in art shows. My favorite artists were Picasso, Monet, and Dali. When I was seventeen years old I began to make and sell jewelry. But, at that time, I never imagined I could turn my craft into a career.

So in 2008 I graduated from UVA with a major in Psychology and a minor in Biology. For two years I worked at a physical therapy clinic full time. All the while, I continued to make jewelry and participate in art shows and festivals. Over time sales picked up and I realized I could make a living as a jeweler after all. Therefore, in January of 2011 I took a leap of faith and opened my small business. It was one of the best life decisions I have ever made.

My work is inspired by my love of art and nature as well as a desire to create a cohesive collection that stands out from the norm. My business name reminds me of my roots and to always trust my instincts – Artistic Origin.

Mission:

My goal is to create beautiful, timeless, simplistic pieces that are easy to wear and built to last. I source materials made to withstand the elements such as freshwater pearls, gemstones, leather, and parachute thread. Quality is important to me.
